ARCHIVE is presenting a fall collection of avant-garde French fashion from the early 1960s through 1990s, featuring couture and collectable pieces from Yves Saint Laurent, Chanel, Thierry Mugler, Emanuel Ungaro, Jean Paul Gaultier, Christian Lacroix, Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, Sonia Rykiel, Christian Dior, Claude Montana, Givenchy and Guy Laroche. The “Paris, Texas” collection will be available online at www.archivevintage.com, as well as in store September 12 - 31, 2014. Local patrons are invited to celebrate the launch of the “Paris, Texas” collection at 5pm on September 12 at 1708 S. Congress Ave, Austin, TX 78704.
The event will highlight a curated selection of over 100 rare pieces from sought-after French labels that have made a lasting mark on the history of fashion. Largely represented in the collection are Yves Saint Laurent’s designs featuring his smoking suit, Grecian-inspired evening gowns, as well as pieces from his peasant collection. The Gaultier pieces selected spotlight his use of sheer materials and his love of street wear. For Thierry Mugler, Archive owner Kerry Bonnell concentrated on Mugler’s structured garments that showcase women’s curves. The selected Chanel pieces, such as quilted bags, blazers and pleated skirts, all evoke a classic “Chanel” feeling.
The collection underscores the impact these designers had as a whole. Saint Laurent, Gaultier, Mugler, Rykiel. Castelbajac, Lacroix, Montana, Ungaro, Dior and Chanel are all trailblazers in their field of fashion design, producing cutting-edge fashion that had yet to be seen. They went against the norm and created elegant yet avant-garde designs, which ultimately changed fashion forever. It is with a deep appreciation for the art of design and the creative French spirit that ARCHIVE presents the “Paris, Texas” fall collection.
